Severe flash floods hit Kerr County, Texas, during Independence Day celebrations, killing at least 24 people. More than 20 children remain missing after rising waters from the Guadalupe River flooded homes, roads, and campsites near Kerrville. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The river surged to a dangerous 26 feet, overwhelming the area with \u201can entire month\u2019s worth of rain in just a few hours.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rescue teams continue searching for missing residents. The Kerrville Police Department said, \u201cHundreds of first responders are here with resources from throughout the state to help us,\u201d and added, \u201cOur thoughts remain with those who are unaccounted for and their loved ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are our focus and will remain so.\u201d Over 230 people have been rescued or evacuated so far. Search efforts use helicopters, boats, and dogs to find survivors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
