Among the victims was Richard \u201cDick\u201d Eastland, 74, a beloved leader at Camp Mystic in Kerr County. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He died on July 4 while trying to rescue campers from flash floods that hit the camp, which had over 700 children present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eastland was found in an SUV with three girls he\u2019d tried to evacuate. He \u201csuccumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Known as a mentor and \u201cfather figure,\u201d Eastland had co-owned the camp with his wife, Tweety, since 1974. His final act was remembered as \u201ca natural extension of a life devoted to nurturing faith, courage, and character.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor Greg Abbott declared disaster zones statewide, deploying over 1,000 responders. He urged Texans \u201cto unite in prayer and resolve\u201d as recovery efforts continue.
