I snapped a photo and fired it off to friends, collecting a flurry of panicked guesses and horror-movie theories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later, after scrolling through images online with my heart still racing, I finally found it: Gasteracantha, the spiny orb-weaver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not an alien, not venomous doom, just a bizarre little architect that spins beautiful webs and mostly ignores humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fear drained away, replaced by something unexpected: awe. That night, I left it where it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
