But after falling ill during a family walk on December 27, 2023, her bright spirit was tragically extinguished \u2014 due to a series of medical missteps that led to her preventable death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Mother\u2019s Instinct Ignored<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lila\u2019s mother, Rachael Mincherton, a nurse at Tameside General Hospital, noticed serious symptoms: headache, vomiting, lethargy, and neck pain \u2014 all red flags for meningitis. Despite her concerns, Lila was discharged with suspected tonsillitis after being assessed by multiple professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI felt reassured by them, to be honest,\u201d Rachael told the&nbsp;<strong>BBC<\/strong>.<br>\u201cShe had quite a few infections before this\u2026 You don\u2019t really not trust people when you work with them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next morning, Rachael found Lila unresponsive. She called emergency services and attempted CPR \u2014 but it was too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI knew she\u2019d been dead for quite some time,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Jury\u2019s Verdict: Neglect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A post-mortem confirmed Lila died of pneumococcal meningitis \u2014 often treatable if caught early.
