Their adventure ended in tragedy when Colin slipped and fell into a boiling hot spring near Pork Chop Geyser on June 7. Sable told authorities they had \u201cleft the boardwalk and trekked several hundred feet up a hill\u201d searching for a spot to soak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dangerous Geothermal Features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Chief Ranger Lorant Veress called the Norris Geyser basin \u201ca very dangerous\u201d area with water temperatures reaching up to 400 degrees, enough to cause fatal injuries. He explained closures are for both visitor safety and environmental protection. Colin\u2019s remains showed \u201ca significant amount of dissolving,\u201d confirming the deadly heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ongoing Risks at Yellowstone<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 20 people have died from Yellowstone\u2019s geothermal hazards, despite millions of visitors annually.
