Gov. Greg Abbott threatened jail and expulsion if they don\u2019t return by Monday, saying, \u201cReal Texans don\u2019t flee from a battle.\u201d He warned, \u201cDerelict Democrat House members must return\u201d or face removal and arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Legal Threats and Political Fight<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abbott accused Democrats of abandoning duties and warned that \u201csoliciting funds to evade fines\u201d might be a felony. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton supports finding and arresting them. Abbott said legislators who \u201cforfeited\u2026 office due to abandonment\u201d can be replaced quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Democrats Respond<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Texas House Democratic Caucus replied, \u201cCome and take it,\u201d calling the GOP plan a \u201cracist mid-decade redistricting scheme.\u201d Chair Rep. Pritzker called their actions a \u201crighteous act of courage\u201d against voter suppression.
