Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) for allegedly employing an undocumented immigrant and helping others avoid ICE. Homan said, \u201cIt\u2019s being looked at (AOC employing illegal alien), can\u2019t comment past that,\u201d and added the agency was told to \u201cdrill in on that case.\u201d He warned that aiding evasion of ICE arrests \u201cis a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Undocumented Staff and Political Background<\/strong><br>Diego de la Vega, the immigrant in question, was AOC\u2019s Deputy Communications Director in 2022. Despite his undocumented status, he worked previously in politics. AOC praised him: \u201cDiego is amazing.\u201d De la Vega left the U.S. in March amid deportation fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AOC\u2019s Response and Legal Defense<\/strong><br>AOC denied wrongdoing and called the investigation \u201cpolitically motivated.\u201d She said, \u201cI was once again fully using the First Amendment to inform people of their constitutional rights.\u201d She warned that detaining an elected official \u201cwithout any actual grounds\u201d would mark \u201ca tremendous sea change\u201d in democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cKnow Your Rights\u201d Webinar<\/strong><br>Earlier, AOC hosted a webinar advising undocumented immigrants on how to deal with ICE, including not opening doors without a judge\u2019s warrant.
