Obama\u2019s portrait, originally displayed in the main entryway, was relocated to the top of the Grand Staircase\u2014an area \u201cheavily restricted to members of the First Family, US Secret Agents, and a limited number of White House and executive residence staff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both Bush portraits were moved to the same area, making them less accessible to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many on social media criticized Trump\u2019s decision, with one calling him a \u201cpetty and insecure man\u201d and another saying, \u201cJust when you think he couldn\u2019t disrespect more he goes and tops himself again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is not the first time Trump shifted presidential portraits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his first term, he replaced Bill Clinton and George W. Bush\u2019s portraits in the Grand Foyer with those of William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, moving the originals to a less frequented room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Obama\u2019s portrait, painted by Robert McCurdy, shows him in a black suit on a blank background. McCurdy explained, \u201cThe subject ultimately for me was the idea of the gaze \u2014 two people looking directly at each other with nothing else to load the narrative.\u201d He said the painting is about \u201cthe relationship between the viewer with this particular person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The portrait move follows recent tensions between Trump and Obama. Trump shared an AI-generated video depicting Obama\u2019s arrest, accusing him of \u201ctreason\u201d related to the 2016 election. Obama\u2019s team dismissed these claims as \u201ca weak attempt at distraction.\u201d The article also recalled a past minor controversy when Obama wore a tan suit in 2014, which critics unfairly targeted as unprofessional.
