Wagner, 35, was ambushed while eating lunch with fellow officer Peter Gale, 51.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gunman Michael Parker, 28, opened fire with multiple weapons, injuring Gale and Officer Brent Payne, 47.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parker was killed in the shootout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wagner was critically wounded and died the next day surrounded by family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Life of Service<\/strong><br>Wagner, a Marine veteran and father of three, had also served with Sheffield Village Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Days before his death, he earned his SWAT pin after a year of training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nba-daily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Loraine-officer-Phillip-Wagner-ambushed-Officer-Down-Memorial-Page.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8569\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Honored by Colleagues<\/strong><br>\u201cFrom the very beginning of his career, he was a respected and beloved member of our law enforcement family,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Community in Mourning<\/strong><br>Police Chief Michael Failing called Wagner \u201cthe loss of a true hero.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city continues to grieve as his wife and children prepare to honor his memory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deadly Ambush in LorainOn July 24, Officer Phillip C.
