Ilhan Omar of Minnesota is under scrutiny after<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) accused her of&nbsp;<strong>\u201cabuse of office and abuse of government loans.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The watchdog group claims Omar, who earns $174,000 annually,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>has defaulted on federally guaranteed student loans worth between $15,001 and $50,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AAF President Thomas Jones wrote that&nbsp;<strong>\u201cRepresentative Omar\u2019s default would shift the cost of her<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>student loans onto the U.S. taxpayer,\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;calling it \u201cunconscionable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also alleged that Omar used her position to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cbully the Department of Education into not collecting the past-due payments.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group has filed a FOIA request for related communications and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>urged House Speaker Mike Johnson to impound Omar\u2019s salary to repay her loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omar\u2019s office has not responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Critics say the claims raise ethical questions,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>given her strong public advocacy for full student debt forgiveness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
