McIver Case<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several&nbsp;<strong>Department of Homeland Security (DHS)<\/strong>&nbsp;posts about Rep.&nbsp;<strong>LaMonica McIver\u2019s<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">alleged assault on federal officers have been deleted after a federal judge ruled they could unfairly influence her ongoing case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McIver, a&nbsp;<strong>New Jersey Democrat<\/strong>, was&nbsp;<strong>charged in May<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">with assaulting ICE agents during a visit to the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Delaney Hall detention center<\/strong>&nbsp;in Newark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has&nbsp;<strong>pleaded not guilty<\/strong>&nbsp;and faces up to&nbsp;<strong>17 years in prison<\/strong>&nbsp;if convicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her legal team argued that DHS\u2019s public comments \u2014 including posts calling the visit a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cpolitical stunt\u201d and saying lawmakers \u201cput safety at risk\u201d \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">were&nbsp;<strong>\u201cextrajudicial statements\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;meant to sway opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judge&nbsp;<strong>Jamel Semper<\/strong>&nbsp;ordered the government to remove them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">calling such remarks&nbsp;<strong>\u201cprejudicial\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;and potentially harmful to a future jury pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although most posts were deleted, one controlled by a journalist remains online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McIver continues to seek dismissal of the charges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Judge Orders DHS to Remove Posts About Rep.
