Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) is under fire for releasing private emails written by Ghislaine Maxwell while she was held at Federal Prison Camp Bryan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maxwell\u2019s attorney, Leah Saffian, called it \u201ca gross abuse of power,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
noting that several prison staff were fired for accessing and leaking the emails without authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She argued the release was \u201ca breach of constitutional protections.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The leaked messages showed Maxwell describing better conditions at Bryan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe food is legions better, the place is clean, the staff responsive and polite,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and joking about her former facility: \u201cno possums falling from the ceiling to fry on ovens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saffian said the disclosure was \u201cjust the latest example of Ms. Maxwell\u2019s constitutional and human rights being ridden roughshod over.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raskin suggested Maxwell was preparing a clemency request,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
an allegation Saffian denied. Maxwell instead plans to challenge her 2021 conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Critics say Raskin\u2019s actions \u201cshow a reckless disregard for due process,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
