Trump Administration Dismisses Dozens
The White House has dismissed about 50 immigration judges and reassigned or encouraged another 50
to retire in an effort to speed up cases and reduce a 3-million-case backlog, according to El País.
The removals were quietly delivered through brief emails, signaling the administration’s plan to reshape immigration courts.
Some judges say they were targeted for their rulings. Jennifer Peyton said, “I was shocked,” calling her dismissal political.
Sen. Dick Durbin criticized the decision as an “abuse of power.”
The National Association of Immigration Judges confirmed widespread concern, warning that “morale is low, and there’s a sense of fear.”
Former judge Carla Espinoza also alleged discrimination after her contract was not renewed.
Administration officials deny political motives, saying the changes aim to boost “performance, efficiency, and restoring faith in the system.”
Supporters argue the overhaul is overdue, stating, “The days of activist judges standing in the way of border enforcement are over.”
