Omaha police were injured during a shootout

“A violent sequence of events shook South Omaha on Wednesday afternoon,

ending with three police officers injured and a suspected gunman dead.”

A man was shot inside Phil’s Foodway shortly after noon.

Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Witnesses identified a suspect who fled, prompting an immediate search.

Officers tracked the suspect’s vehicle to a busy QuikTrip gas station near 32nd and L Streets.

Confrontation


The suspect ran into the store and barricaded himself in a restroom.

During negotiations, police say he fired, wounding two officers and injuring a third with shrapnel.

Officers returned fire, killing the suspect and ending the threat.

Aftermath


“All three injured officers were taken to a local hospital and are expected to recover.” Leaders praised police actions as lifesaving.
