Federal Officials Announce Details
Checkpoint Incident
Federal authorities said a Texas man was sentenced to prison after a violent encounter at a Border Patrol checkpoint.
Court records show the case began when Kevin Dominguez arrived at a checkpoint on U.S. Highway 57.
Discovery and Escape Attempt
Agents noticed suspicious movement, and a canine alerted to the trunk.
Officials found “an undocumented individual concealed inside.”
When told to stop, Dominguez “suddenly reversed his sedan in an attempt to escape.”
Agent Injured, Suspect Arrested
During the escape, Dominguez struck a Border Patrol agent and fled.
Prosecutors said his actions “endangered both law
enforcement personnel and the passenger hidden in the trunk.”
He was later arrested and pleaded guilty.
Sentence and Aftermath
Dominguez was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.
Officials said the punishment reflects “the seriousness of using
a vehicle to evade law enforcement,” followed by supervised release.
