Hospital Issues New Update on Lindsey

Lindsey Vonn suffered a fractured left leg after a severe crash during the women’s downhill final at the Winter Olympics in Cortina, the treating hospital confirmed.

The American skiing icon fell at high speed after clipping a gate early in her run and was given immediate medical attention before being airlifted to hospital.

The crash happened when Vonn’s right ski pole struck an outside gate, throwing her off balance and sending her tumbling down the course.

She was first treated on-site, then transported by helicopter to Ca’ Foncello Hospital.

At 41, Vonn was attempting to make history as the oldest alpine skier to win an Olympic medal. Her appearance was already remarkable,

coming just nine days after tearing the ACL in her left knee.

The hospital later confirmed she underwent

surgery to stabilize the fracture and is in stable condition,

though recovery is expected to be lengthy. U.S. Ski and Snowboard chief Anouk Patty said Vonn “will be OK,”

while teammate Breezy Johnson shared that Vonn was cheering for her from the helicopter, underscoring her resilience.
