1. Why Early Detection Matters
Sudden skin changes—new moles, dark spots, or scaly patches—can sometimes signal skin cancer,

“one of the most common and treatable cancers globally.” With over 1.5 million new cases yearly, early detection is especially critical for melanoma, the deadliest type.

2. Main Types to Know
The three most common forms are Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), and Melanoma.

BCC often appears as a shiny bump and rarely spreads. SCC may grow quickly as a crusty red nodule. Melanoma can develop anywhere and often has irregular borders and varied colors.

3. Warning Signs
The ABCDE rule—Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variation, Diameter, and Evolving—helps spot melanoma. Nodular melanoma grows fast and needs urgent care.

4. Protect Your Skin
Do monthly self-exams, watch for moles that change or don’t heal, use SPF 30+ sunscreen, and avoid tanning beds. Early action saves lives.
