Struggles and Loss
Sean faced deep sadness after his wife died of cancer, leaving him to raise four children alone. “He was unable to keep his employment due to his expensive cost to care for his wife.” To cover her medical bills, Sean had to sell their home. Living in Oakland was too expensive, so they moved to a nearby tent community. Working part-time was not enough to pay bills, and Sean often went hungry to feed his kids.
A Chance Encounter
One day, Sean saw a man in distress at a gas station. The man explained, “My wife is currently giving birth, and we have run out of gas.” Sean hesitated but gave the man his last $2. The man gratefully said, “Thank you! No problem… I can fill up a gallon and get to the hospital.” Sean felt fulfilled despite his own hardships.
A Life-Changing Offer
The next day, Sean received a video call from the man, Matthew, who introduced his newborn baby and asked Sean to meet him. Sean shared his struggles: “Taking care of my children has limited my employment options to part-time.”
Matthew revealed he was a business owner and offered Sean a partnership, saying, “I would prefer it if you took over as owner.” Sean was shocked but accepted the opportunity.
