If someone goes to bed at 8:30 or 9:00 p.m., waking at 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. may simply mean a full sleep cycle has ended.

Retirement, reduced daylight exposure, medications, naps, or caffeine can also contribute.

Occasional early waking is usually normal.

Keeping consistent sleep times, limiting screens before bed, staying active, and getting natural sunlight can help support healthier sleep patterns.
