Deadly Flash Floods Hit Texas Summer Retreat
A summer getaway along the Guadalupe River turned deadly when flash flooding struck Texas, killing at least 51 people and leaving many missing.
Kerr County suffered the worst, with 43 deaths including children at Camp Mystic, a “longtime riverside retreat.” Floodwaters swept through cabins, devastating families and prompting nonstop rescue efforts.
Sudden “Flood Wave” Overwhelms Area
The tragedy followed intense rains and a sudden “flood wave”—a fast, powerful surge of water that hit the region within minutes.
Experts explain that such waves can move at “25 to 40 mph,” giving little time to react. Videos showed water rushing through riverbeds, destroying vehicles, buildings, and campsites.
Lives Lost and Search Efforts Ongoing
Victims include young campers and elderly residents in riverside cabins. Some were rescued by helicopter, but many remain missing, including an entire family vacationing near Hunt, Texas.
Survivors share how “quickly the water rose” and how little time there was to escape. Emergency crews continue expanding search operations, while families hold onto hope.
