Kansas City Chiefs owner’s family loses 9-year-old girl in Texas flood
Tragic Flood Claims 82 Lives in Texas
At least 82 people have died in a flash flood in Kerr County, Texas, with officials warning the number could rise as recovery continues.
Among the worst-hit was Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls, where 27 campers and staff were confirmed dead and 11 remain missing.
Young Lives Lost
The flood hit with little warning, swelling the Guadalupe River and overwhelming the camp of 750 girls. Victims included young girls like Lila Bonner, Sarah Marsha, Eloise Peck, and Renee Smajstrla, just beginning their summer.
Personal Grief
Janie Hunt, age 9 and a relative of Kansas City Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, was among the victims. Her grandmother asked, “How does faith survive this kind of loss?” Tavia Hunt shared a moving tribute online.
Community in Mourning
Governor Greg Abbott said Texas faces a “long road” to healing. Grieving families have requested privacy as the community struggles to cope.
