Family Tragedy on CE-060 Highway
A devastating accident on the CE-060 highway between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte early Sunday morning, July 16, has left the Cariri region in mourning.
A family from Várzea Alegre—Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and their 3-year-old son Miguel Nascimento Gomes—lost their lives when their car veered off the road and plunged into a stream.
Trip for Medical Hope Ends in Loss
The family was en route to Juazeiro do Norte so that little Miguel could undergo surgery. What should have been a short, one-hour trip turned tragic.
“The hope of healing and well-being was abruptly interrupted, turning into pain and mourning,” reports TV Verdes Mares.
Accident Details and Rescue Challenges
According to the Ceará Military Fire Department, the crash happened around 7 a.m. near Sítio Piripiri. The vehicle fell into a stream with water roughly 5 meters deep. The depth hampered rescue efforts and contributed to the fatal outcome.
