After Six Years Abroad, I Returned to My H

After six years overseas, I returned home to surprise my mother.

I had bought her a $600,000 house in Austin and sent her $3,000 every month.

But when I arrived, a man opened the door and said, “If you’re here to clean, the maid is out back.”

The maid was my 62-year-old mother. I found her kneeling outside, scrubbing grease from the kitchen. Her hands were red and raw, and she looked exhausted.

“Mom,” I whispered. She cried and finally told me the truth.

My sister Khloe and her husband Julian had moved in two years earlier. They took control of the house and pressured Mom into giving them access to the money I sent.

They even threatened that I might sell the house and leave her homeless.

I took Mom to a hotel and contacted an attorney. He asked, “Did you sign a lease with them?” “No.” Then he asked, “Did they pay rent?” “Not one dollar.”

The next evening, we returned with legal documents proving I owned the house. Julian had no lease or ownership claim.

Khloe accused me of thinking I was better than the family. I replied, “I never thought I was better than you. I thought you were family.”

I realized I wasn’t just taking back my house. I was giving my mother back her dignity, security, and home.
