The Clothes I Gave Away Came Back With Something I Didn’t Expect
A year after I sent Nura a box of my daughter Reina’s outgrown clothes, she returned the package with a handwritten note and a crocheted duck from my childhood.
She thanked me for helping when she had nothing and wrote that it was “time it comes home.”
When I called her, Nura told me she had escaped an abusive partner and was living in a shelter when she contacted me.
We stayed in touch, sharing photos, job opportunities, and late-night conversations. Eventually, our friendship grew stronger as we supported each other through grief and difficult times.
When my work hours were later reduced, Nura sent me €300, insisting that I accept her help. It meant more than the money—it reminded me that kindness could go both ways.
I later celebrated when Nura began culinary school, proud of everything she had overcome. Our daughters became close friends and now call each other cousins.
The crocheted duck still travels between our homes.
What began with a simple box of clothes became a lasting friendship, showing how even a small act of kindness can bring hope when someone needs it most.
