A Legendary TV Mom
June Lockhart is best known for playing Ruth Martin, Timmy’s mother, on Lassie from 1958 to 1964. Alongside Jon Provost and the famous collie, she became a beloved TV mom. She later starred as Dr. Maureen Robinson, the strong mother in Lost in Space (1965–1968), captivating viewers with her determination.
A Long and Diverse Career
Lockhart’s work spans decades and many popular TV shows like Bewitched, Magnum, P.I., and Beverly Hills, 90210. She also appeared in almost 40 episodes of General Hospital and movies such as Holiday in Handcuffs (2006) and The Remake (2016). Early in her career, she earned a Tony Award in 1948 for For Love or Money.
Passion Beyond Acting
Aside from acting, Lockhart has been a strong supporter of NASA since the 1970s, receiving the Exceptional Public Achievement Medal in 2013 for promoting the space agency. She comes from an acting family, debuting as a child in A Christmas Carol (1938) alongside her parents Gene and Kathleen Lockhart.
