Heathrow Evacuated With Airport
Travel Chaos on “Frantic Friday”
Britain’s summer getaway began in disarray as travel disruptions hit roads, rail, and airports. A fire alarm forced an evacuation at Heathrow Terminal 3, causing major delays.
Christina Warren tweeted, “the line for passport control is literally backed up literally the entire terminal.”
Natalie Berg added, “Nearly two hours and line has barely moved.”
Major Road Disruptions
The M11 near Stansted closed after two crashes, creating seven-mile queues. A campervan fire on the M25 also led to delays.
The Port of Dover saw long backups, with some drivers verbally abusing staff. CEO Doug Bannister said, “We’ve boosted staff levels… to minimise disruption.”
Rail Woes
Trains were delayed due to strikes, equipment failures, and a track obstruction. Services to Gatwick, London, and the north were all affected.
Record-Breaking Travel
The RAC predicted 2.7 million trips Friday and nearly 27 million over the week. Drivers were urged to avoid peak hours for smoother travel.
