Jasmine Crockett In Danger Of Losing Seat
Texas GOP’s Redistricting Plan Sparks Backlash
Texas Republicans have proposed a new congressional map that could add up to five GOP-held seats and remove Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett from her Dallas district.
Crockett criticized it as “a power grab to silence voters.”
Democratic Concerns and Intra-Party Clashes
The rare mid-decade redistricting could pit Democratic incumbents against each other. For example, Reps. Lloyd Doggett and Greg Casar may end up in the same Austin district under the plan.
Crockett noted Democrats were asked to verify their home addresses before the map was revealed, calling it unusual.
National Democratic Response
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called this “an all-hands-on-deck moment,” vowing to “fight them politically… in court.” He insisted, “Texas Democrats will not bend the knee.”
Cross-State Tensions and Protests
To block the redistricting vote, Texas Democrats fled to states like Illinois. Governor J.B. Pritzker promised, “We’re going to do everything we can to protect every single one of them.”
