A traffic stop near Blue Grass Airport on July 13, 2025, turned deadly when a suspect shot a state trooper and fled. He later opened fire at Richmond Road Baptist Church, killing two women and injuring two men. “The shooter may have had a connection to someone at the church,” said Lexington Police, though the motive remains unknown.
Victims Remembered
The victims, Christina Combs, 34, and Beverly Gumm, 72, were mourned by family and the community. “She had written a book filled with family stories,” said Rachael Barnes of her mother, Beverly. Christina, a mother of five and aspiring nurse, was nearing graduation.
