Biden’s Pardons In Jeopardy as House Oversight
House Oversight Chairman Probes Biden’s Mental Fitness, Possible Impact on Pardons and Orders
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer says his probe into Joe Biden’s mental state could lead to challenges against pardons and executive orders from his final months.
Comer claims evidence shows Biden “had no idea what was being signed” and may not have signed some documents himself, relying heavily on an autopen.
“It’s questionable whether or not it’s legal to use an autopen on a legal document,” Comer said, especially after Biden’s troubled June 2024 debate and subsequent withdrawal from the race.
Testimony from ex-policy chief Neera Tanden revealed she used the autopen with little contact with Biden. Several aides, including his physician, refused to answer questions, invoking the Fifth Amendment.
Biden insists he “made every decision” on pardons, but Comer argues the evidence suggests many actions “may have been approved without his knowledge,” raising the possibility of overturning them in court.
