Final words of ‘Grizzly man’ before he was eaten alive

Famous for Tragedy

Timothy Treadwell, known as the “Grizzly Man,” spent 13 summers living among Alaska’s brown bears.

His passion turned deadly in October 2003 when he and girlfriend Amie Huguenard were fatally attacked at Katmai National Park.

A Mission Born from Survival

After surviving a heroin overdose in the late 1980s, Treadwell wrote in Among Grizzlies, “from the moment I first saw one in the wild, I knew my destiny was tied to theirs.”

He dedicated his life to protecting bears, often filming close encounters.

The Final Moments

A chilling audio recording captured the attack: Treadwell cries, “Come out here; I’m being killed out here.”

Huguenard pleads, “play dead,” then screams as the bear returns. Treadwell begs her to hit the animal before his voice fades.

Why It Happened

Experts believe food scarcity and late-season aggression contributed.

Biologist Larry Van Daele suggested her screams “could have even sounded like a prey call,” provoking the bear further.
