Robert Redford Dies at 89
Oscar-winning actor and director Robert Redford has died at his mountain home in Utah at the age of 89, his publicist confirmed Tuesday.
Cindi Berger of Rogers & Cowan PMK said he passed away in his sleep; the cause was not disclosed.
Redford rose to fame as one of Hollywood’s great leading men, starring in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969),
All the President’s Men (1976), The Sting, Out of Africa, and The Way We Were.
Known for blending charm with intensity, he redefined what American film could be.
Beyond acting, Redford became a force behind the camera.
He won an Oscar for directing Ordinary People in 1980 and later received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
His greatest legacy may be Sundance. Founded in 1981, the Sundance Institute and Festival reshaped independent film,
launching the careers of directors like Quentin Tarantino and Ava DuVernay.
