Biden Tests Positive for COVID-19
President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, forcing him to postpone his trip to
Washington, D.C. for the 75th NATO Summit. The 81-year-old is experiencing “mild symptoms” such as fatigue and congestion.
“I’ve been vaccinated, boosted, and I’ll be isolating while continuing to carry out my duties,”
Biden said in a video address from the White House, joined by his physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor.
NATO Summit Adjustments
This is Biden’s second COVID-19 infection since July 2022, and it comes just months before the election.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said NATO planning meetings will move online.
Vice President Kamala Harris is ready to handle in-person responsibilities if needed.
Biden joked, “This isn’t my first rodeo with COVID – I’ll be back on the trail before you can say ‘malarkey.’”
Medical Concerns and Treatment
Given his age, experts are monitoring Biden closely. Dr. Marty Makary of Johns
Hopkins warned, “Even mild cases can present complications at his age.”
The White House confirmed Biden has been prescribed Paxlovid and will undergo cardiac monitoring as a precaution.
Jill Biden tested negative and has canceled her upcoming trip.
