Tragedy in Villarrica
The community of Villarrica, in Chile’s La Araucanía region, is mourning the loss of brothers Matías (15) and Benjamín (13) Sobarzo.
What began as a family tradition on the eve of Chile’s national celebrations ended in a tragic accident.
Family Accident
Local reports say the family was preparing to raise a flag at their home when the accident occurred.
Despite immediate medical care, both boys passed away.
Their mother was also injured and remains hospitalized.
Community Tributes
The news deeply shook Villarrica.
Teachers, friends, and classmates described the brothers as “bright, energetic, and full of dreams.”
The Humanities School of Villarrica held a ceremony in their memory, recalling them as hopeful and cheerful students.
A Father’s Grief
Their father, Marcelo Sobarzo, expressed his heartbreak, saying it was hard to understand such a sudden loss.
The town has united to support the family during this time of mourning.
