Newsom’s Polling Among Key Constituencies
Newsom Leads Early Democratic Polls
California Gov. Gavin Newsom is the early frontrunner for Democrats in the 2028 race,
a Yahoo News/YouGov poll shows, with “21% support among registered Democrats.”
Vice President Kamala Harris follows at 19%, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at 12%, and Pete Buttigieg at 10%.
Weak National Approval
Despite his primary lead, a Sept. 9 Cygnal survey found Newsom with a net approval rating of “-5, with 38% approving and 43% disapproving.”
He struggles with swing voters, trailing by 12 points, and faces sharp opposition among non-college voters, men, and high-propensity voters.
Concerns Among Key Groups
The Daily Torch noted “early polling hints at Newsom’s weak spots with key constituencies, particularly non-college voters and independents.”
Some Black religious voters also view him unfavorably.
Controversial Statement
Newsom drew criticism after his team posted: “Kristi Noem is going to have a bad day today.
You’re welcome, America,” prompting comparisons to threats made before Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
