Tragic School Van Accident
On Tuesday, August 5, a school van rolled over on a rural road in Ipameri, Goiás, killing 9-year-old Celina Victoria Frões Muniz Goes.
The accident happened about 35 km from the paved road in Mata do Calixto.
Authorities’ Response
Police Chief Diogo Ferreira told g1 that the van belonged to “an independent rural school transportation provider.”
Community Mourning
The Ipameri City Hall declared three days of mourning, saying it “expresses its condolences for the loss of the young student.”
Nossa Senhora de Fátima Municipal School suspended classes, and teachers joined Celina’s wake and burial in Caldas Novas.
Accident Details
According to Fire Department Major Rodrigo André, five children and the driver were in the van.
Celina’s brother suffered a bruise, while the driver had only a minor graze and chose not to seek medical care.
