Nobel Peace Prize committee explain why
Why Trump Didn’t Win the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize
Machado Honored for Defending Democracy
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her
“tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela” and her
“struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
Despite being banned from office and forced into hiding,
Machado continues to challenge Nicolás Maduro’s regime and push for free elections.
Trump’s Disappointment
President Donald Trump had openly suggested he should win the prize, saying, “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize.
I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.”
He has often cited his diplomatic achievements, claiming, “I’ve done six wars, I’ve ended six wars.”
Committee’s Reasoning
Nobel chairman Jørgen Watne Frydnes explained, “We base our decision only on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.”
The committee emphasized that democracy is “a precondition for lasting peace,”
underscoring why Machado’s fight for freedom was recognized over Trump’s claims.
