GOP Blames ‘No Kings’ Protests for Prolonging Shutdown
Republican leaders say Saturday’s left-wing “No Kings” protests are fueling Democrats’ refusal to end the government shutdown.
Speaker Mike Johnson accused Democrats of using the demonstrations to
“create a spectacle,” claiming, “That’s what they’ve been doing here every day of the shutdown.”
Johnson said protest organizers “distributed talking points cheering on the shutdown,”
calling the movement “the reason the Democrats have refused to reopen the government.”
The “No Kings” coalition dismissed his remarks, saying, “Speaker Johnson is running out of excuses for keeping the government shut down.”
The group described the protests as “a peaceful national day of action” against what they call the Trump administration’s “authoritarian excesses and corruption.”
Johnson labeled the rallies “the hate America rally,” arguing that left-wing radicals “hate individual freedom, limited government, and the rule of law.”
