Teenage Girls Killed in Tragic Prom Night Crash
What should have been a night of celebration turned into heartbreak when
17-year-old Kiea McCann and 16-year-old Dlava Mohamed died in a car
crash on their way to prom in County Monaghan, Ireland, in July 2023.
The girls were passengers in a car driven by 61-year-old family friend
Anthony McGinn, who ignored their pleas to slow down.
Traveling at 94 mph in a 50 mph zone, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree, killing both teens instantly.
“They were found side by side, still holding hands,” a witness recalled.
Dlava’s sister, Avin, survived but suffered severe injuries and memory loss.
In May, McGinn pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and
received a seven-year prison sentence—a punishment families called far too light.
“Seven years, that’s justice? Two beautiful girls… this is what we got today,” said Kiea’s mother, Teresa.
