Remembering Kimber Mills: A Life of Kindness and Courage
Eighteen-year-old Kimber Mills dreamed of becoming a nurse and spreading kindness wherever she went.
A senior at Cleveland High School, she was a
cheerleader, track runner, and, as her sister Ashley Mills said, “warm, friendly, and full of life — with a little spunk to her step.”
On October 18, Kimber joined friends at a bonfire in Pinson, Alabama.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old
Steven Tyler Whitehead arrived after midnight and opened fire during an argument, injuring several and fatally wounding Kimber.
He was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Kimber passed away on October 21 after being taken off life support.
Her family described her hospital honor walk as “the largest the doctor had ever seen.”
A registered organ donor, Kimber gave others the gift of life — her final act of compassion. “That’s what she wanted,” Ashley said.
