GOP Set to Add Another Seat to House In State
National Redistricting Battle Intensifies
Republican-led legislatures across several states are advancing new congressional maps to expand GOP power,
moves encouraged by former President Donald Trump.
These efforts could help secure control of the U.S. House in upcoming elections.
North Carolina’s Push
In North Carolina, Republicans passed a map giving them an edge in 11 of 14 districts.
State Sen. Ralph Hise said the goal is to “secure another Republican seat,”
calling it vital to Trump’s agenda.
Governor Josh Stein cannot veto redistricting plans, making passage likely.
Defending the Maps
Senate leader Phil Berger argued the new map “honors North Carolina voters’ choices,”
while Democrats denounced it as partisan manipulation.
Nationwide Moves
Similar efforts in Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and Indiana aim to boost GOP seats,
while California Governor Gavin Newsom backs a plan to create five new Democrat-leaning districts in response.
