Trump and Xi Announce “Warm” Trade Understanding After South Korea Meeting
Former President Donald Trump announced a new trade understanding with Chinese President Xi Jinping after a
closed-door meeting in Busan, South Korea, on Wednesday.
“We have a deal,” Trump said, adding that it would be renegotiated yearly but could “go on for a long time.”
According to Fox News, Trump said the agreement includes reduced tariffs, fentanyl enforcement, agricultural trade,
and a temporary pause on China’s rare-earth export limits.
“I believe he’s going to work very hard to stop the death that’s coming in,” Trump said, referring to Xi’s fentanyl pledge.
Xi described the meeting as “warm,” saying the U.S. and China “can still find ways to thrive side by side.”
Trump called Xi “a friend of mine” and praised China’s plans to buy soybeans, sorghum, and other farm products.
While officials later clarified tariff rates would remain around 45–47%,
Trump emphasized the talks as “very good,” signaling renewed cooperation despite ongoing tensions.
