Brad Pitt Opens Up About Facial Blindness
Actor Brad Pitt revealed he has prosopagnosia, or “facial blindness,”
a condition that makes it hard to recognize faces, even of close friends or family.
He explained that while it “doesn’t affect intelligence or memory,” it can lead to social discomfort.
People with prosopagnosia may experience anxiety or depression,
as failing to recognize familiar faces can cause misunderstandings and isolation.
The condition can be congenital, sometimes running in families,
or acquired through brain injury, strokes, or illnesses like Alzheimer’s.
There’s no cure, but those affected often use alternative cues such as “voice, hairstyle, clothing, or body movements” to identify others.
Diagnosis involves specialized memory and facial recognition tests.
Many, like Pitt, go undiagnosed for years, often thinking they just have poor memory.
Despite challenges, individuals can adapt and navigate social life through awareness and compensatory strategies.
