Supreme Court Steps In and Delivers
Supreme Court Backs Trump Administration
The U.S. Supreme Court handed President Donald Trump a major victory,
ruling 8–1 to lift a lower court order that had blocked his plan to end protections for hundreds of thousands of migrants.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the lone dissenter.
Ruling and Arguments
The decision allows the administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for roughly 300,000 Venezuelans.
Solicitor General John Sauer argued the lower court “exceeded its jurisdiction,”
saying the case involved “particularly discretionary, sensitive, and foreign-policy-laden judgments of the Executive Branch.”
End of TPS for Venezuela
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated,
“The 2023 TPS designation for Venezuela is being revoked,”
saying the country no longer met the criteria for protection and
that continued stay was “against the national interest.”
Impact
DHS reports over 527,000 deportations and 1.6 million voluntary departures
since Trump took office, figures expected to rise with added resources.
