Former Vice President Dies

Dick Cheney, influential Republican vice president under George W. Bush, has died at 84.

He was a key architect of the “war on terror” and one of the most powerful vice presidents in modern U.S. history.

Service and Health

Cheney served as the 46th Vice President from 2001 to 2009.

He struggled with cardiovascular disease, survived several heart attacks,

and received a heart transplant in 2012, which he later called “the gift of life itself.”

Family Statement

His family said he passed “due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.”

“His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary,

and other family members were with him as he passed,” the statement read.

Legacy

Cheney’s family remembered him as a role model: “Dick Cheney was a great and good man…

taught his children and grandchildren to love our country, and to live lives of courage, honor, love, kindness, and fly fishing.”
