ICE Reaches Out to NYPD Officers Upset

DHS Recruits NYPD Officers Amid Tensions With Mayor-Elect Mamdani

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has begun recruiting

New York City police officers following the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor.

In a post on XImmigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) urged officers to join “an agency that respects you,”

appealing to those uneasy about serving under the new administration.

The move mirrors past recruitment efforts under President Donald Trump,

targeting officers in sanctuary cities as part of a plan to expand ICE’s workforce nationwide.

Trump has called Mamdani a “communist” and warned of withholding federal funds if New York

fails to cooperate with immigration enforcement.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, has vowed to uphold the law equally,

stating that “everyone will be held to the same standard.”

He has also branded ICE a “rogue agency” and pledged to resist deportations,

signaling continued tensions between city and federal authorities.
