Trump urges Republicans to end Obamacare
Trump Pushes to End Obamacare Amid Record Shutdown
1. Escalating the Battle
On the 38th day of the federal shutdown,
President Donald Trump urged Senate Republicans to dismantle the Affordable Care Act,
proposing a new way to handle federal health funds.
2. Trump’s Proposal
Posting on Truth Social, he called for redirecting “hundreds of billions of dollars” from insurance companies
“DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE.”
His message: “Take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people.”
3. Political Stalemate
Talks in the Senate stalled as Democrats rejected a bill to reopen the government without addressing Obamacare subsidies,
while Republicans opposed Senator Chuck Schumer’s plan to extend them.
4. Mounting Fallout
Trump also urged Republicans to “terminate the Filibuster” to move legislation forward,
as the shutdown—now the longest in U.S. history—disrupted air travel and federal food aid nationwide.
