ARREST

Kansas Mayor Charged for Alleged Illegal Voting

Kansas officials charged Coldwater Mayor Joe Ceballos, a legal permanent resident from Mexico,

with six counts of voting illegally in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 elections.

Secretary of State Scott Schwab and Attorney General Kris Kobach announced the charges,

saying Ceballos voted despite not being a U.S. citizen.

Kobach, known for his strict views on immigration and voter ID laws, said investigators have “unassailable evidence” against Ceballos.

He added, “Noncitizen voting is a real problem.

It is not something that happens once in a decade.”

The charges include lying under oath and illegal voting, which could bring over five years in prison.

Kobach said, “Our system right now is based on trust…

we allege that Mr. Ceballos violated that trust.”

Ceballos, who was recently on the ballot for re-election,

is scheduled to appear in court on December 3.
