‘We Caught Them’ — Speaker Johnson Goes

Speaker Johnson Criticizes Democrats Over Healthcare ‘Poison Pill’

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) accused Democrats of trying to slip a

“poison pill” into the latest government funding bill,

saying they removed key Republican provisions aimed at lowering healthcare costs.

In an interview with Newsmax, Johnson said the Affordable Care Act subsidies—set to expire at year’s end—

are “driving premiums up even higher.”

He argued, “We don’t want to throw good money at a broken and failing system.”

Johnson claimed Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act would have cut healthcare premiums by 12.7%,

but Democrats “fought to take it out.”

He added, “Merely subsidizing something is not the answer.”

With subsidies expiring December 31, Johnson called the issue “urgent” and vowed to propose bipartisan reforms to reduce costs.

“Democrats… want a completely unreformed continuation,” he said.

“We’re going to come up with reforms that will actually solve the problem and not make it worse.”
