Top Democrat Faces Legal Firestorm Over

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) is under fire for releasing private emails written by Ghislaine Maxwell while she was held at Federal Prison Camp Bryan.

Maxwell’s attorney, Leah Saffian, called it “a gross abuse of power,”

noting that several prison staff were fired for accessing and leaking the emails without authorization.

She argued the release was “a breach of constitutional protections.”

The leaked messages showed Maxwell describing better conditions at Bryan:

“The food is legions better, the place is clean, the staff responsive and polite,”

and joking about her former facility: “no possums falling from the ceiling to fry on ovens.”

Saffian said the disclosure was “just the latest example of Ms. Maxwell’s constitutional and human rights being ridden roughshod over.”

Raskin suggested Maxwell was preparing a clemency request,

an allegation Saffian denied. Maxwell instead plans to challenge her 2021 conviction.

Critics say Raskin’s actions “show a reckless disregard for due process,”

and Maxwell’s team plans to file a formal ethics complaint.
