Southern California Experiences S
Southern California residents felt a moderate earthquake Monday morning that shook areas from San Diego to Los Angeles.
The quake struck shortly after 10 a.m. Pacific Time, with the epicenter a few miles south of Julian, and
was strong enough that “the movement was strong enough to cause buildings to sway and residents in multiple counties to pause daily activities.”
Emergency alerts were issued, and seismologists later reported aftershocks, the strongest below magnitude 4.
Officials said early assessments showed no serious injuries and limited damage.
Some localized impacts were reported, including “small rockslides that briefly affected travel along State Route 76.”
Transportation agencies temporarily halted some services for safety checks, while officials monitored conditions.
Residents were urged to stay alert for aftershocks and review emergency plans.
Overall, “the limited impact and coordinated response highlighted the region’s ongoing focus on preparedness.”
